We live in India where pollution is in a severe position. Every day in news we see the Air Quality Index (AQI) becoming worst day by day. This effects our respiratory system which can be very dangerous. This also creates the problem of cough and cold. So, to fight with this situation we need to intake herbal ingredients so that it gives relief from inside and makes our internal organs strong.  Below are some of the Ayurvedic herbs which can give you relief in cough and cold:

1) Vasaka- Being rich in anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and expectorant properties, Vasaka holds high significance in treating the common cold, cough and flu symptoms. It also reduces chest and nasal congestion gets rid of excess sputum and stops nasal discharge. Vasaka is an extremely important component of ayurvedic medication for the treatment and prevention of cough. Coughing causes a lot of discomfort and can be a real obstacle for getting a good sleep at night. It leaves you tired and exhausted. It is used to suppress coughing and especially when a person coughs up yellow sputum or is unable to expel the sputum or has wheezing. It also helps eases breathing. 2) Kantkari-  It is beneficial for the management of respiratory problems like cough and asthma due to its expectorant property. It helps to release mucus from the respiratory passages and prevent asthmatic attacks. It encourages respiratory health by maintaining a clear respiratory tract. It maintains healthy levels of moisture in the respiratory membranes for easy breathing.

3) Yashtimadhu- The herb is effective in curing respiratory diseases like bronchitis, asthma, chronic bronchitis, chest congestion, sore throat, and whooping cough. It has demonstrated a soothing effect on the throat and pharynx. Therefore, it is also effective in treating hoarseness of the voice. It is considered to possess anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-obesogenic, analgesic, an anti-depressant to make it a multipurpose herb, which promotes a healthy lifestyle. It also thins and slackens phlegm deposits within the chest and nasal cavities and hence eases breathing and helps the body to get rid of mucus. 4) Tulsi-  Tulsi is beneficial in relieving cough and cold symptoms due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antitussive (cough-relieving) and anti-allergic properties. Taking a few leaves of Tulsi along with honey helps relieve cough and flu as it improves immune health. Camphene, cineole, and eugenol present in It helps to reduce cold and congestion in the chest. Juice of Tulsi leaves mixed with honey and ginger is effective in bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough and cold. Naturally antibacterial, tulsi helps in purifying your blood and fighting infections—a must-have to fight flu, colds and pollution-related respiratory disorders. Never chew the leaves as they contain high levels of mercury, which can cause teeth discoloration. Instead take five to six leaves and boil in water to make a tea for relief.
